Malang, May 18 2024 - Muhammadiyah University of Malang (UMM) once again reaffirms its position as a leading educational institution with the appointment of two professors on May 18. This appointment, held under the auspices of the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), garnered attention as it welcomed two distinguished figures, namely Prof. Dr. Idah Zuhroh, M.M., and Prof. Dr. Widayat, MM.
In her speech, Prof. Dr. Idah Zuhroh discussed the role of Islamic banking in driving the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through a multilayered approach and strengthening intersectoral regulation. She emphasized that Islamic banking has great potential as a key player in mobilizing funds for projects supporting SDGs. The challenges of sustainable development, she argued, require strong regulation and cross-sectoral cooperation.
Meanwhile, Prof. Dr. Widayat advocated for the urgency of building a balanced and sustainable lifestyle to achieve better holistic well-being. He highlighted the importance of issues such as green economy, green marketing, and responsible production and consumption as integral parts of sustainable development. According to him, the well-being of society is not only determined by economic factors alone but also by social and environmental conditions.
In this context, Prof. Dr. Widayat emphasized the need for adopting the principles of social marketing as a more relevant approach to addressing social and environmental issues. He viewed this approach as more effective than traditional methods that rely solely on sanctions or social campaigns.
Thus, the appointment of these two professors not only serves as a momentum for UMM to strengthen its presence in the academic world but also reflects its commitment to making real contributions to sustainable development and societal well-being.
