Friday, June 9, 2023 - The Management Study Program at the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) of Muhammadiyah Malang University (UMM) held a Curriculum Workshop on Friday, June 9, 2023. The workshop took place in the Management Laboratory I GKB II 5th floor and was attended by the Deanery of FEB UMM and all lecturers of the Management Study Program FEB.
The workshop discussed a curriculum based on Sustainable Development Goals (SDG's) that requires outcomes. Dr. Idah Zuhroh, M.M., Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) UMM, explained that the vision of FEB UMM in 2030 is to become a higher education institution recognized at the ASEAN level in the field of Economics and Business based on Islamic values. Therefore, several students and lecturers of the Management Study Program are expected to have developed themselves abroad, as an implementation of FEB's vision, one of which is internationalization.
The Management Study Program has benchmarked the curriculum to several universities in Malaysia regarding international community service programs, research, and service. The follow-up plan includes research collaboration at several universities with several teams, international service, international classes (Joint Degree with MSU, Wenzao Ursulin in Language, and UII), Student Mobility (community service and international internships), and Conference Collaboration (MIICEMA, AFEB). In addition to discussing the curriculum, the Management Study Program FEB UMM also held a Vision, Mission, Objectives, and Strategy (VMOS) workshop based on Sustainable Development Goals (SDG's) as an effort to increase the competitiveness of the Management Study Program globally. There are 7 SDG's that are compatible with the Management Study Program's VMOS.
Curriculum reconstruction is carried out based on SDG's and Industry, with input from DUDI (PT. Cheil Jedang) and the chairman of the Indonesian Management Forum (FMI) as a basis. The Chairman of the Indonesian Management Forum, Sri Gunawan, said that improvements, development, and refinement of the curriculum are needed to improve the quality of students. This UNAIR Management lecturer emphasized that management students must be able to read financial statements and understand the process of making them. Management is more focused on marketing planning through product knowledge or marketing value. "If you can't be the best, make yourself different," he said.
Nurul Muzayyanah, General Manager of the Human Resources Department of PT Jeil Jebang Indonesia, also explained that job applicants today are required to master 3 things. First, work competence in developing skills. The context in question is the applicant's ability to carry out and understand tasks. Second, cross-function competence, which is forming habits. This is because some jobs require special expertise certification and the ability to complete work quickly and accurately. Third, soft competence, which is building a mindset. "On average, students today face problems such as good English language skills in reading and writing, but when tested for speaking, they are stiff or weak. This causes their competence to decline," she explained.
