Center of Excellence (CoE) Tourism and Hospitality, Management Study Program, University of Muhammadiyah Malang, is one of the new breakthrough programs launched by the Chancellor of the University of Muhammadiyah Malang, as a form of preparation in the professional and quality workforce sector. This Tourism and Hospitality class was launched on June 25 2022, in response to the increasingly conducive tourism sector after the two previous years were hit by the COVID 19 pandemic, especially in the hotel business sector which experienced an increase in 2022 of 30 – 78% compared to 2021 (source: UNWTO).

Management Study Program, University of Muhammadiyah Malang, collaborates with Rayz Hotel UMM, Grand Mercure Malang Mirama and Novotel Surabaya as partners in implementing the Center of Excellence program in the field of Tourism and Hospitality. This time, the 2020 Management Study Program students had the opportunity to undergo training at Rayz Hotel UMM which covered 10 departments, starting from sales marketing, front office, F&B service, accounting, e-commerce, marcom and several other departments. During the training which has been running for about three months, students have been provided with materials and practical exercises as preparation for internships.

Submission of material is given directly by practitioner lecturers in accordance with the departments in the hotel. One of the materials provided was from the sales marketing department and explained directly by the General Manager of Rayz Hotel UMM namely Yanuar Arifien. It begins with the provision of material regarding admin sales, which includes Banquet Reservation (BR) which is a basic standard in making BEO or Banquet Even Orders. This BR is done after an agreement with the guest and has been confirmed between the sales and the client.

The material is given for two months and the remaining one month students do practical exercises in the departments that have been divided. This practical training system is divided into 10 groups of a total of 20 students according to the departments that have been determined. In this training each group takes turns doing work practices every three days so that later students can understand the tasks of each department. According to Bella, who is an employee in the admin sales department, believes that, "this program is very good for students because it can add experience in the world of work, especially in the hospitality sector, besides that this training is also quite helpful for the admin sales department in completing various tasks".
